VOCISON-DEVICEThe short version
We designed Vocis so we do not have your data.
Recording, speech recognition, optional AI rewriting, dictionary replacement, and usage statistics run locally. Vocis does not require an account, contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDK, and does not sell or share personal data.
This policy applies to the Vocis application for macOS. It explains what the app accesses on your device and the narrow situations in which it uses a network connection.
Microphone & audio
Heard once. Not kept.
When you begin a dictation, Vocis records from the microphone you chose. That audio is written to a temporary WAV file in a local Application Support directory, processed locally, and removed after transcription completes or the recording is cancelled.
macOS controls microphone access. You can revoke it at any time under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Vocis never uploads or streams your microphone audio.
Stored on your Mac
The things Vocis remembers.
These items stay in local app storage. They are not synchronized to a Vocis service:
- Transcription history
- Up to 100 recent text transcripts and timestamps when Save History is enabled. No recordings.
- Writing tools
- Your dictionary replacements, snippets, custom modes, and transformation instructions.
- Preferences
- Hotkeys, activation mode, microphone, preferred language, and app settings.
- Local usage statistics
- Counts used for the dashboard, such as words dictated and time saved.
Network access
Two connections. Neither carries your words.
During setup, Vocis downloads the Whisper speech model you choose. If you enable AI transformations or Voice Edit, it also downloads the Gemma language model. The model download service may receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address; your recordings, transcripts, prompts, dictionary, and account identity are not part of those requests.

Once your chosen speech model—and the optional language model, if you use rewriting—are installed, dictation and rewriting work without an internet connection.
System permissions
Only what the job requires.
Every permission is controlled by macOS and can be revoked from System Settings.
Diagnostics & support
Nothing is sent automatically.
Vocis keeps a rotating local diagnostic log of operational events such as states, timings, counts, model availability, device identifiers, and error types. Its logging contract excludes transcription text, audio, clipboard contents, dictionary entries, snippets, and transformation prompts.
You can export a readable diagnostics file from Settings → About → Support. It leaves your Mac only if you choose to attach it to a message.
Retention & control
Your Mac. Your erase button.
Turn off Save History to stop future transcripts being stored. Delete individual history entries or clear them all from Settings. Dictionary entries, snippets, modes, downloaded models, and other settings can be edited or removed in the app.
Because Vocis operates locally, there is no server-side profile to request, export, or erase. Standard macOS storage such as preferences and Application Support files may persist independently when an app is removed; they remain on your device.

Children’s privacy
Vocis is a general-purpose productivity application and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children or anyone else.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revision date at the top of this page will be updated. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate product or website notice.
